Established in 2019 by James Everette Bootle, Woodlawn Oaks Timber may be a young company, but is backed by decades of experience in the forestry industry.
As a third-generation logger, Bootle has the knowledge and first-hand experience needed to understand and appreciate the mechanics behind it all.
As a young boy, Bootle grew up in the logging woods, from operating equipment like skidders and loaders, to hauling logs to the mills. Many years and many miles walking through the woods, he has gained the expertise he now uses still today.
In 2020, Woodlawn Oaks Timber welcomed forester and timber buyer Henry Lockey to the team, followed by Dean Ilderton and Will Carter. With years of valuable knowledge and passion for the timber industry, these guys have created a comprehensive team ready to serve you.
Henry Lockey is a licensed Forester and Procurement Manager with decades of experience. In his 43-year career, he has worked with private and corporate markets. His extensive knowledge in land management, combined with his ability to balance the needs of landowners, consultants, developers, and loggers, ensures maximum results are achieved in the management, growth, and sale of timber.
Henry graduated from Wayne Community College in Goldsboro, NC in 1979. Shortly after, he moved to South Carolina and married his wife, Cindy. Together, they have three daughters and four grandchildren, with one more on the way. Outside of his passion for forestry, Henry loves to fish and be involved with youth sports, particularly baseball and softball.
Dean Ilderton is a professional timber buyer for Woodlawn Oaks Timber in Walterboro, SC, a licensed
forester, Timber Operations Professional certified, and SC Tree Farm Inspector. Originally from
Summerville, he has lived in Saint George nearly three decades. After graduating from Summerville
High, he earned a BS in Forest Resource Management at Clemson University in 1993. He then went on
to earn an MBA at The Citadel in 2000.
For more than 3 decades in the forest products industry, Dean has worked in the lowcountry and midlands
focusing on timber harvest planning and implementation, coordinating reforestation, providing land
management advice, and wildlife management. Additionally, he has worked in several mills covering
safety, load inspections, wood quality, and inventory management.
When asked about what is key to a successful timber harvesting operation for a landowner Dean said,
“Work with a professional forester from the start. I work with the landowner to set goals, and develop a
harvest plan. Once the harvest begins, we stay on track through regular field inspections and
conversations with the landowner.”
